Loughborough College – Sense

Sense College Loughborough is a small specialist college based in the heart of the East Midlands, offering daytime services to young people with a wide range of disabilities.

Scope of work

The Client was looking to make improvements to the college by replacing all the old lighting (appx 600 fittings) with energy saving LED fittings. Hollmark replaced all suspended ceiling tiles throughout the college with a modern looking tile. We installed thermal insulation pads above for additional energy saving.

We also installed new suspended ceilings in the first-floor classrooms and offices. As part of the works a new server room was created with a complete data cabling upgrade with over 500 new data outlets around the building

Outcome

The entire project was delivered within the 6 week summer holiday period with around 90 rooms and corridors having new ceilings, tiles and lighting. A complete IT infrastructure was installed throughout the building, whilst maintaining the old system so staff and students could continue working during the holidays

Onsite challenges

Although the works was carried out during the college holiday period, some staff and students were in attendance for the whole period, this meant we had to work to a live environment and program. Liaising with staff to ensure there were rooms available for students and staff and safe routes throughout building. The old IT system had to be maintained throughout the job whilst the new system was being installed

These works have included both Reactive and Planned maintenance, and major refurbishments.

Within Reactive maintenance, Hollmark have been able to provide an effective service which has attendance timescales ranging from 28 days to 48 hours’ notice.

Planned maintenance and refurbishment projects have included all work types, ranging from re-roofing, complete shop re-fits, to major conversion works of a Children’s Centre. The general value of these works is in the range of £10,000 to £60,000, with the odd project valued at up to £200,000.

These works are all competitively tendered, and Hollmark have proved to be very cost effective in this respect."
